How to Work Out Your Bra Size

Do you know your bra size?  Are you sure?

The fact of the matter is that the majority of women really do not know what size bra they should be wearing.

Perhaps there was a time  when you were fitted by a corsettier and knew what size bra you should be wearing, but over time , for whatever reason, your size has changed and you have never gotten around to having our bust size  rechecked.

Sadly not knowing what bra size you should be wearing means that you could be wearing bras that are uncomfortable, under supportive or frankly just unattractive to your body. So why not take a little time and make sure you know your bra size.

Here’s how to work out your bra size:

You will need a tape measure for this. It is preferable  to use a cloth or plastic sewing-type tape measure, as you will be measuring your body and a metal tape really isn’t going to give you the right result.

The first measurement you need to take is the band area around your rib cage just below your breasts. This should be where the base of a normal bra sits.

Then measure the cup size. This is a measurement that is taken around the center of your breasts, literally around your body, coming right across your nipples.

The measurement of the band area number below your breasts is part of your bra size number. If you came up with an even number, add 4 to it. If you came up with an odd number, add 5. This is your bra size number (as in 34C or 38B)

Now you have to do a little more math. You need to subtract the band measurement from the cup measurement. For example, if your bust size was a 40 and your band size was 36, you subtract 36 from 40 and get 4 as your answer. Using the chart below that shows you are a D cup, therefore a 36D.

  • Less than ½ inch = AA
  • Up to 1 Inch = A
  • 2 Inch = B
  • 3 Inch = C
  • 4 Inch = D
  • 5 Inch = DD
  • 6 Inch = F
  • 7 Inch = G
  • 8 Inch = H
  • 9 Inch = I

See how easy it is to make sure you are wearing the right size bra.

And what a difference it makes when you are wearing the right bra, you are more comfortable, confident and your clothes hang better.
